One of my latest endeavors had been to host food-related videos for Shoptopia.com, “where you can easily find deals and products at over 500,000 stores!” It’s an incredible online resource for all-things-shopping, and I’m honored to be a part of the Shoptopia team, as one of their Food Experts.
The latest video I hosted, which just posted on their “Food and Grocery” page, is all about popcorn! And trust me…Right now is the best time to learn how to spruce up an easy snack like popcorn, with the holidays, guests and all of the madness that comes with this time of year!
What I didn’t know until after we shot this video is that home made popcorn, Kettlecorn specifically, is a snack that my Grampa, the “Colonel” as he was called, used to make all of the time! It was one of his “things”, and he even had his own name for it: Sugar Pop!
What a perfect name, don’t you think?
According to my aunts, he would make it in his cast iron pan and make a giant mess, one that would drive my Gramma batty! I love the image of him in the kitchen, whipping up his favorite Sugar Pop, shaking it up, allowing the delicious smell of fresh home made popcorn and sugar to permeate their fun-filled home.
He used to remind me to slow down when I speak, telling me that I’ll never book an audition if I talk too fast, and every time I’m in front of the camera, I think of his mindful and honest, helpful words of wisdom. What I didn’t know was that he was truly there with me as we shot this video just a couple of months ago, a video on how to make his Sugar Pop, along with Maple Pecan Popcorn and Pumpkin Spice Popcorn.
Warms my heart and puts the biggest smile on my face, thinking that I might be passing on how to make a snack he and my family thoroughly enjoyed.
Now, it’s time for you to whip up some Sugar Pop!
